never far from one of the many parks and gardens
with the oldest, Le Jardin Albert 1er stretching
over 1 mile from the seafront towards the hills.

restful and flowery esplanade between the Old Town

When on
a
Nice holiday
you must visit the Rue de France pedestrian
shopping street runs from the end of the
Place Massena, parallel to the seaside. This
area is full of shops, including some
exclusive clothing boutiques, restaurants
and cafs with outdoor terraces.
The "vieille ville" has narrow streets
curving in irregular fashion between old
buildings with red-tile roofs, this could be
almost any medieval village of the region.
The streets are packed with shops and
restaurants offering meat, pasta, clothes
and gifts. Wine can be bought by the bottle
or the barrel (bring your own container) and
there is an amazing variety of fresh made
ravioli and pasta.
For the designer labels head to rue du
Paradis, rue Massna |

a major
pedestrianized district, rue de la Libert,
rue Alphonse Karr and avenue de Sude. The
Avenue Jean Mdecin, is home to most of the
chain stores.
The Cours Saleya has a daily flower market
and a food market in the mornings. There are
stands, from large, professionally displayed
goods to folding tables set up by family
farmers with their produce and live fowl
directly from the farm.
The length of the Cours Saleya is sided by
the low buildings that separate it from the
seaside. Once used to store the fishermen's
catch, they have made way largely to seafood
restaurants. The other side of the Cours
Saleya is lined by terrace cafs and lovely
old buildings.
Finally, for dedicated shoppers, the
enormous Cap 3000 shopping centre is worth a
journey out to the suburbs, and can be found
near the airport. |
