Whether you want a relaxing all-inclusive holiday or an action packed self-catering holiday in Costa Brava there is something to suit everyone. You'll find modern, international tourist resorts with high-rise hotels alongside unspoilt fishing villages, sheltered rocky coves and medieval towns with ancient castles.
The Costa stretches from Blanes, north of Barcelona, to Roses near the French border. Besides the obvious attractions of its many wonderful beaches, holidays in Costa Brava (meaning Wild Coast) are also an ideal base from which to explore the countless treasures of Catalonia. When on holiday on the Costa Brava, you can visit Europe's biggest water park, located just outside Lloret de Mar and the Marineland complex near Blanes is another hugely popular family day out with its dolphin, sea lion and parrot shows, water slides, reptile house and children's zoo. The most attractive of all resorts to visit while on holiday in Costa Brava is Tossa de Mar. This part of the coastline has 9 miles of tourist beaches and small coves but the most attractive part of the resort is its historic old quarter, the Villa Vella, with its ancient defence walls and towers still in tact.

Beaches
Tossa de Mar's beautiful coastline stretches for 9 miles and offers a wide variety of water sports. Platja Gran is the main beach at the centre of the resort, in an attractive horseshoe bay dominated by the ancient defence towers on the headland. It's a big sandy beach which is awash with services and water sports in the summer months. Here you'll find public toilets, showers, Red Cross first-aiders and plenty of bars and restaurants.
The main beach of Lloret is a 1½ mile long stretch of coarse sand flanked by high-rise hotels, apartments, shops, bars, restaurants and ice cream parlours. The beach consistently wins the European Blue Flag for cleanliness and offers safe bathing with lifeguard services. Europe's biggest water park, an aquatic zoo and the Universal Studios Port Aventura theme park are all within easy reach from Lloret de Mar.
Thousands of tourists book hotel and self catering holidays to Costa Brava and enjoy the endless sand dunes, lagoons and white sand beaches.
Shopping
Around the resorts of Costa Brava you will find the usual array of shops, from typical tourist bric-a-brac to boutiques. Leather, shoes, local arts and crafts and carpets are also good buys. For those who wish to venture away from the resort areas, you will find a huge selection of shops in Gerona or the very cosmopolitan city of Barcelona.
Gerona has some superb shops selling antiques, crafts and souvenirs, surrounded by the many delightful cafes on the Rambla de la Llibertat. Barcelona is definitely one of the most stylish cities in Europe and shopping here is a must for the fashion-conscious, with jewellery books and designer furniture all on offer.
Nightlife
Costa Brava holidays offer relaxing days unwinding on the beach and the nightlife is leisurely and relatively low key in some resorts like Blanes and Calella or very lively like in Lloret de Mar. Lloret de Mar is one of the Mediterranean's most popular resorts and certainly the liveliest holiday spot on this stretch of the Spanish coastline. Its a "Club 18-30" type of resort where there's enough British bars, discos, organised beach antics and foam parties to keep the most hardened reveler happy for a fortnight.
Families also flock to Lloret for their summer holidays as the resort offers a wealth of entertainment and five safe, sandy beaches which bask in temperatures of 22-28C during the summer months.
Tossa de Mar has a variety of restaurants, cocktail bars and disco's and in high season many of them open well past midnight.
