Costa Del Sol Holidays and Hotel Information
Holidays in Costa del Sol have miles of magnificent beaches for sun worshippers and water sports enthusiasts. The Costa del Sol is one of Europe's most popular year-round holiday spots, stretching for 100 miles to the east and west of Malaga on the south coast of Spain.
The rich and famous are to be found in swanky Puerto Banus on their multi-million pound yachts. Lesser mortals pack the beaches and nightclubs of Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Benalmadena a few miles along the coast. Since the package holiday boom of the 1960s, the Costa del Sol's ancient towns and fishing villages have been transformed into mega tourist centres geared to the demands of the millions of international visitors who take a hotel or self-catering holiday in Costa del Sol each year.
Highrise Costa del Sol hotels and holiday apartments in Costa del Sol dominate the coastline along with restaurants and entertainment centres. But there are still relatively unspoilt resort areas where you can enjoy a "sun and sea" Costa del Sol holiday whilst still soaking up the flavour of traditional Andalucian life. There are also plenty of golf courses. The 30 mile stretch east of Malaga is the quieter end where nature has controlled excessive tourist development with its Sierra Almijara mountain range creating cliffs of up to 200 metres. The main resort is Nerja, at the far eastern end of the Costa where it meets the neighbouring Costa tropical.
To the west of the capital, you'll find the Costa del Sol package holiday playgrounds of Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Fuengirola- not much Andalucian charm here but plenty of foam parties, fish and chips and round-the-clock fun. Marbella and Puerto Banus are Spain's answer to St Tropez. They're classy, glitzy and very expensive.

Beaches
The beach life of Torremolinos and Fuengirola is one of the busiest on the Costa del Sol, from toddlers with their buckets and spades to experienced scuba divers, this resort has something to offer everyone down at the seafront. The town has 9 miles of sandy beaches which consistently win the European Blue Flag for cleanliness and are well serviced with sun beds, shades, lifeguards and excellent local chiringuitos (beach bars). With 4 miles of beautifully kept white sandy beaches and one of the longest promenades on the Costa del Sol, Fuengirola is a paradise for sun worshippers and water sports enthusiasts.
All the local beaches have been awarded the European Blue Flag for cleanliness in recent years and they are well served with bars and designated areas for volleyball, windsurfing, jet skiing and other water sports. Marbella has something for everyone with 17 miles of coastline and 24 different beaches to choose from.
Whether you're into jet-skiing, sailing, star-spotting, balloon flights, cable skiing or simply enjoying some of the best fresh seafood in the world you'll find it all at Marbella's seafront and water sports centres. Most of the beaches have all the usual "essentials" like footbaths, lifeguards, children's play areas, sun loungers, sunshades and a variety of water sports. Thousands of tourists book package holidays to Costa del Sol and enjoy the endless beaches, long promenades and varied water sports.
Shopping
Puerto Banus offers a range of chic boutiques and expensive designer shops, ideal for the discerning shopper. There is also a weekly market in Fuengirola for leather goods and jewellery.
Estepona offers a good choice of shopping from local handicrafts, leather, hand painted ceramics and fashion goods.
Nightlife
Costa del Sol holidays offer a wide variety of lively and relaxed nightlife in many different resorts. Andalucia's culture and passion for music reflects strongly in the nightlife available. Fuengirola and Benalmadena in particular are popular places to go out, each offering their own variety of Flamenco shows, salsa nights, open-air discos, street cafés and terrace bars.
Torremolinos has the liveliest nightlife on the southern coast of Spain with hundreds of bars, clubs and huge dance halls. Marbella also has a thriving nightlife where you can stroll along the glitzy golden mile filled with street cafes, bars and swanky restaurants before heading to one of the many disco's and nightclubs.
Nerja and Puerto Banus offer a quieter and more sophisticated scene and have a good selection of restaurants, plaza-cafés and bars. There is also a Casino here and many trendy bars which are very busy in peak season.
