Majorca Holidays and Hotel Information
Take your holidays in Majorca, also known as Mallorca, and visit the largest of the Balearic Islands, located in the Mediterranean off the east coast of the Spanish mainland. More than six million visitors take holidays in Majorca - from members of the international jet set to hordes of budget-conscious British package holidaymakers. The island is about 70 miles from east to west and about 75 kilometres from north to south. It's an island of great contrasts with dramatic rugged mountains in the north west, a rural heartland virtually untouched by tourism, hidden coves favoured by owners of multi-million pound yachts and the international playgrounds of La Palma and Magaluf.
A Majorca holiday is just two and a half hours flying time from London, making it a firm favourite with the British package holiday industry. There are also regular ferries and flights from the Spanish mainland. Palma is fast gaining a reputation as one of the Mediterranean's most exclusive holiday venues and further afield you'll find a magical world of romantic mountain villages, ancientmonasteries, historic castles and breathtaking scenery. So choose your resort area and holiday accommodation in Majorca carefully and Majorca will be whatever you want it to be.
All-night ravers, families with young children, couples and "eco-tourists" will all find something to suit them here. Beaches
A Majorca holiday offers more than 70 beaches from wide, sandy bays packed with tourist facilities to tiny rocky coves only accessible on foot or by boat. Go banana riding at Magaluf or seek out a fresh fish restaurant in one of the tiny coves untouched by tourism. Explore the coast by catamaran or marvel at the multi-million pound yachts moored in some of the world's swankiest marinas.
For those active Majorca holiday makers the main tourist beaches offer every kind of water sport and leisure activity imaginable - beach volleyball, water ski-ing, jet ski-ing, windsurfing, parasailing and much more besides.
Shopping
Majorca has excellent shopping with a modern shopping mall and hypermarket complex in Palma. Regular markets are held throughout the island.
Particularly worth a mention are those at Alcudia held every Tuesday and Sunday, Andratx held every Wednesday, and Inca every Thursday. Most markets on Majorca tend to start quite early in the morning at around 8am, and finish just after 1pm before the heat of the day really sets in. As with all markets, use common sense and be prepared to haggle to secure the best bargains.
Nightlife
When the sun goes down, Majorca is the playground of the rich and famous who party alongside the not so rich (or famous) hordes of package holidaymakers.
The south west resorts of Magaluf, Palma and El Arenal - which these days more or less all merge into one - are where you'll find the hottest actions. The place is chock-a-block with late night music bars, discos, cabaret shows, foam parties, karaoke.
