The resort is made up of 2 hotels - the Tulum and the Akumal, and is on the Riviera Maya, on the east side of the Yucatan Peninsula 35 minutes away from Playa del Carmen and 20 minutes away from Tulum. The three quarter of a mile-long private beach is naturally protected by a coral reef and has a selection of watersports and diving. The hotels are set in large well kept gardens full of tropical vegetation, protected ecology and architecture which all blend well together. The Riviera has a semi tropical climate with average temperatures of 26 degrees centigrade.

Location and Resort
The resort was designed by the Mexican architect, Fernando Quirarte, and it was inspired by the Puuc Mayan architectural period. The two hotels have nearly 1500 rooms between them and are split between 3 storey villas each holding 18 rooms each. Motorised watersports are not permitted to protect the reef from damage.
